COURTROOM UPDATE - 6/11/08: Police officer describes discovery of bodies

posted at 11:24 a.m.: WOBURN - Hopkinton Police Sgt. Michael Sutton described this morning how an odor led him to the discovery of Rachel's and Lillian Rose's bodies on Jan. 22, 2006.

Testifying in the fourth day of testimony in the Neil Entwistle double murder trial, Sutton said the odor led him and Detective Scott van Raalten from the basement to the master bedroom.

In there, the pair searched the room and Sutton looked at the bed, covered by a pile of bedding.

"I lifted the corner of the blanket closest to me and I observed what apeared to be a human foot," he said.

Later in his testimony, he also described finding Lillian Rose near the head of the bed.

"I lifted the corner of the blanket and I first observed a baby's face ... I looked to the right of the baby's face and saw a woman's face," Sutton said.

Sutton also testified about a well-being check he and Officer Aaron O'Neil conducted the night before.

He said he went into the room, noticed the bed was covered with blankets and appeared to be unmade. He did not notice anything suspicious.
