COURTROOM UPDATE - 6/9/08: Stepfather takes the stand
posted at 11:45 a.m.: WOBURN - Rachel Entwistle's stepfather took the stand this morning in Neil Entwistle's double murder trial.
Joseph Matterazzo described his relationship with both Rachel and Neil Entwistle.
"I tried to be as much of a father I could to her. Her father died when she was very young," Matterazzo said of his relationship with Rachel.
On Neil, he said, "I liked Neil a lot. He was part of the family."
Also testifying this morning was Joe Matterazzo's son, Michael Matterazzo.
He testified he went shooting with his father on Jan. 21, 2006, the day after Entwistle is accused of murdering his wife and baby daughter, Lillian Rose.
Michael said he was responsible for taking the gun lock off the .22 caliber revolver authorities say was used to kill Rachel and Lillian.
"It didn't appear to be on correctly," he said. "It was on, but it wasn't tight or correct."
He also testified Joe Matterazzo's key to the gun safe was left in the open and in the kitchen.
Joe Matterazzo's testimony is expected to continue soon.
