WOBURN - Rachel Entwistle's mother took the stand this morning as the prosecution's first witness.

Priscilla Matterazzo described her daughter's growing relationship with Neil Entwistle from their time as friends on the same crew team to becoming husband and wife.

She also described how the Entwistles lived with her and her husband, Joe Matterazzo, in their Carver home.

There, Neil Entwistle would spend much of his time working on his laptop computer. He also went shooting with Joe Matterazzo at least twice.

The couple moved to Hopkinton in January, 2006, and visited the Carver home on Jan. 16, 2006 so Neil Entwistle could use the computer.

"He was very distant. He just left that day without saying goodbye," Matterazzo said.

She also described Jan. 21, 2006, the day she and a friend were supposed to visit the Entwistles' 6 Cubs Path home, but they were not home.

She left, but later that day she asked the Hopkinton Police Department to perform a well-being check because the family missed a separate get together with friends. Police found nothin unusual in the house.

The following day, she said she filed a missing persons report. Later that night Hopkinton Police Chief Tom Irvin told them they found Rachel and Lillian Rose dead.

"I was shocked and upset," she said.

One of Entwistle's defense lawyers, Stephanie Page, started cross examination just prior to lunch, and it is expected to continue after the break at 2 p.m.
